Ecopipo Onesize Pocket

One of my secret hopes for Flower is that she'll go into a Science based career. I want her to ask questions and seek to answer them. Of course, I'll be completely happy whatever she does, provided it brings her fulfillment, but I still hope... An astronaut is aiming high (ha - see what I did there?!), but when I saw the rocket print on this nappy, I knew I had to have it!

This is a birth to potty pocket nappy, which is a bit different to the other pockets that I've used (and not really loved). RRP £13.99, but I bought this secondhand for a tenner, with some new Bambooty wipes thrown in too. The picture above doesn't show it, but there are 4 rows of poppers to adjust the size, so this is a highly adjustable nappy.

I loved it so much that I bought 2 more, but they are a bit different. After some research I now know that this is the old style ecopipo. I'll try to describe how the new style differs at the end.
Inside the nappy
On this version, there is a large pocket which opens at the front and back of the nappy. I find this incredibly useful as one of my grumbles about pocket nappies is that I can't get the inserts to lie flat. With a opening at both ends, it is a matter of great ease to tug it until it lays perfectly.

In this picture you can also see the fabulous gusset which contains EVERYTHING! Nothing is going to escape out of this nappy sideways!

Also note the PUL panel at the inside front of the nappy. It helps the front of the nappy to lay really smooth and flat on Flower's tummy, which I like. It means that when the nappy is on the smaller settings, the insert (which is not a small one, as you will see) doesn't push up into the waist.
Laundry tabs

Here is the insert - different, huh?!
The insert that goes into this pocket is pretty smart. It is a trifold insert, with a third microfibre and two thirds bamboo. This means that they're really making the most of the properties of the different fabrics. The microfibre is fast absorbing, so if you fold the insert with this layer on top, it can absorb big wees quickly. The bamboo can absorb lots of wee, but slightly slower, so is brilliant for underneath the microfibre.

Issues
I truly have no issues with THIS nappy. I'm sad that the two I bought are different, and sad that as this is the older version, I'll struggle to find more in this exact design. Booo.

Overall
Pros:
Fun prints available from ecopipo. They're currently running a 'battle of the prints' if you follow them on facebook, so have a look to see some of the fab designs!
Front and back opening on pocket makes it so easy to stuff and get the inserts to lay flat.
Trifold insert makes clever use of the properties of microfibre and bamboo, but when laid out flat dries surprisingly quickly.
Excellent inner gusset. I think this could even contain the horrible newborn milk allergy poos that we endured for the first few weeks!
Cons:
Since this is a discontinued design, I'll be crossing my fingers for more to pop up on the secondhand facebook groups that I obsessively follow these days.

So the front and back opening pocket, the excellent gusset and the trifold insert all make this one of my favourite nappies. I think it is cleverly designed and exceptionally functional. I really love this nappy.

Unfortunately 2 of these features have been removed for the newer design! The newer design pocket opens at the back only, the gusset has been reduced to 'rails' and the gently structured panel at the front is now microfleece all the way, which is supposed to reduce wetness, but I find it reduces structure and smoothness at the front. Sad me. That being said, the trifold insert is enough to keep me using these nappies, as it is excellent at absorbing. This is a nappy that I trust to do what it says on the tin, and we even used them for a recent long car journey after a big feed - no problems at all!

If you feel like that's been a couple of extremely positive reviews in a row, I suppose I have to admit that I've now tried many many nappies and have narrowed it down to just a few that I'm using on a regular basis. Nevertheless, there are many more nappies that we've tried that I'm ready to review soon - they won't all be winners, I assure you!
